Hi guys,

got a 2005 e60 with what seems to be semi-climate control (3 knobs). More often than not, when I hit the off switch, it comes on automatically within like 2 minutes. Its annoying because I have to keep hitting the off switch.

Anyone hve this issue before ? Know how to fix this ?

Thanks !!

This is a pretty common problem and even more common on the e39 ( i hate when they do not correct a problem over a generation). It is called the final stage unit or blower regulater. I cant remember which is the e39 and which is the e60 but they are effectively the same thing. Problem in the e60 it is not a simple DIY unless you are pretty handy. The E39 was very accesible and easy to swap. This one requires taking the center armrest completely out and geting below that area.

Part is a couple hundred I believe, dealer quoted me 600 for labor! Mine was very intermittent and months later the problem went away! So maybe I guessed at the wrong part or the "demon" left to find another car. Commonly called "my a/c is possessed!"

Don't know why you want to turn it off. I just click off the A/C compressor (snowflake) and manually put the fan on the lowest setting (center dial). Then I can still adjust the temp knobs and I have the auto vent settings direct the warm air where it wants to go. These settings are retained without any issues.

I actually prefer mine to turn off and on when only I need it to be on because I can't stand it when I enter the car and it's start blowing air out, sometimes dust at my face. The air flow itself is not very noticeable but knowing it's on just bugs the hell out of me.

I think there was a thread about this issue awhile back. It has to do with the AC controller unit itself, quite expensive if I remember correctly.

Can't find that thread anymore though.

Thanks Gents.

I want mine in OFF because even the slightest bit of air flowing and my hayfever plays up (even after taking a anti-histamine!). My nose is very sensitive like that.

But if it's going to cost that much, I wont bother fixing - will just turn fan to max left.

I have however noticed that if I move the temperature down and then press off, it stays off. Can anyone else please confirm this also works for them ?

Thanks again.
