They are legal in the us if you populate the brake/park/tail bulb sockets with red bulbs. In the case of E60, this would be three red 1156 bulbs. The amber turn signal bulb and the wedge-base reverse lamp can be reused. Here's a source of red 1156 bulbs: http://store.racinglab.com/polm22hyp11b.html

I must correct you on a point here....

They are legal in the USA if you have red bulbs inside the light, so it illuminates red....

But you must also have red reflectors on the rear portion of the car. Example, if you get the red reflectors for the E60 rear bumper, you will be fine. Without them, your car will be illegal.

Take a look at the Lexus RX330, which is sold with clear brake lights. It has red reflectors in the rear bumper however. This is how it is legal in the USA.

Same story is true for front turn signals. They can be legal if they are clear, as long as there is a yellow reflector on the front of the car somewhere. For an example, look at the current M3. It has yellow reflectors in the front bumper, and clear turn signals.

Thank you Rudy
No - I was too lazy to try searching
Besides - it is more fun to post
When you put "try" in italics you sound exactly like my wife
But I appreciate the link

BTW - now that I saw the picture I think I'll keep the stock ones.

Good choice -- they look terrible in my opinion (and probably your wife's opinion too! )

HAHAHA....funny

I also don't like the clear tail lights....looks like they belong on those Honda racers. But the smoked tail light looks pretty sport..IMO.
