Hi-
Sometimes the simplest jobs just become a real PITA!
I have a 2007 525i. While replacing my intake air filter, one of the clamps that hold the lid on (side fastener facing front the front of the vehicle) fell off and dropped down into the engine compartment. I could here it take a long deep path, hitting 2-3 items before it dropped down into some deep abyss. I cannot find it anywhere. I took off the bottom engine cover and nothing.
The lid seems to be on pretty tight, and I still have the two clamps facing the fender in tact.
Does anyone know if I could buy this fastener somewhere? I called the dealer and they stated it cannot be ordered separately, and is part of the entire air box assembly.
Or am I OK running with out???? Thanks!

Don't let the dealership fool you about buying an entire new air box.
I dropped the clamp that's on the side of the air box about two weeks ago too. Fumble fingers. I'd replace it if I were you. It must have been there for a reason.
I think the part is called the air box tensioner #13717525713. (At least that's the part for my 2008 528xi) Check it out on the BMW of South Atlanta website. Their schematic diagrams are a god send. I'm gonna go pick one up from my dealership on Friday. Will let you know if its the right part.
It seems like the only reason I go to the dealership nowadays is for parts. I'm not paying $130+ per hour for labour for "diagnosis" that can be done through Google.

I need to look at my air filter this wknd on my 06 530XI. I notice the clamps that have to be removed however it appears still to be connected. Is this more complicated than it seems?

No,it's not complicated. Flip those 3 clips and lift up the air filter box cover. While flipping the clip that is facing the front of the car, place your hand on it and flip it. Otherwise, it may fall down.

Seems to be a common ailment with the E60!! I dropped the side one too, gone and never to be found again. Although aside from that this has been the easiest vehicle to change the filters that I have ever owned!! I love my baby!
