time for my first official oil change, service light came on at about 13000 miles. Was debating about asking for a software upgrade at the same time. Currently have 16.2. What is the current commonly available version in the US now? Any significant upgrades? Will I get RDS? My understanding is that MP3 is still a way off for nav system cars. What can i complain about to get them to do it? Only common problem right now is the driver window won't roll up about half the time when the switch is flipped- need to do it 2-3 times.

Thanks

I'm not sure. I have the same thing you have 2005 545 SMG and I am too running 16.2

My service is comming up soon and I was thinking the same thing debating if I want 19.03 or not.

If you do get the S/W upgrade PLEASE PLEASE report back and tell me if its worth it or not.

I am willing to take the risk if it makes the engine smoother or makes the transmission gear changes smoother / better.

Other than that I dont have any real problems besides the Increased Emissions warning comming up before.

I'm afraid to touch a working system. It can make it better or make it worse.

Unless u really have problems I would save your "trouble list" to get a free warranty upgrade for something u really need.

Go here for the latest list for CIP status.

I keep two lists: one for things not working as well as they should and the second for things that I am "owed"--mainly MP3 capability. I generally won't do a voluntary update unless I am going to get something significant from on list or the other. Sometimes upgrades yield one step forward and several steps backwards or worse. I have 19.01.01--which works very well in my car. I think the last available some places is 19.02.03; this version, as I recall, has broken BT on some cars and also has produce RDS problems on some cars.

Actually, RDS was turned back on as default with CIP 19.01.01. Owner members started reporting issues with RDS scince then as in this SIB:

SI B 65 16 05
Sound System, Cruise, Alarms, Monitors September 2005
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin replaces SM B65 221 04 dated May 2005.

SUBJECT
RDS Function Causes Confusing Station Names when in "All stations" Screen

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation

E63, E64 (6 Series)

E90 (3 Series) with SA 609 CCC-Navigation

SITUATION
With RDS (Radio Data System) set to "Active" some of the displayed station tags will show part of the song title or artist name instead of the station name. For example: instead of "Rock98" the display shows "Thomas".

CAUSE
RDS was set "Active" at the factory instead of "Inactive".

PROCEDURE
With the introduction of CIP 12, RDS was coded off and could not be turned on again.

With the release of CIP 19.1, after the vehicle software is updated, RDS is now coded on as default.

If the customer does not wish to see these confusing RDS tags, then turn RDS off.

--

Subsequent releases through CIP 19.02.03 have made no further changes to this area (RDS) so anybody getting any of the three (19.01.01 and higher) upgrades released having come from CIP 12 thru 18 should have the same RDS symptoms.

vnod makes a very good point about making and keeping two lists for fixes and features (owed or not as I am really not sure BMW sees it the same way in my opinion). That way u have a ready list just in case the car goes in for something that needs immediate attention and u don't have time to ask around. Some of mine are already documented with BMW dealer in earlier service visits so I also annotate my list with their SI (Service Invoice) number.

Right I mis-spoke on the origin of the RDS issue since I "was awarded" this minor problem with 19.01.01.
