I've seen a few posts in the past regarding CIP (such as 20.02) which I THINK is referring to engine mapping (also on some people's signatures). However, it doesn't come up on the search function. Can someone explain what CIP is and what the different numerical levels refer to? I'm ultimately trying to understand if this is a possible solution for my '04 545 acceleration stumble from a dead stop.

CIP (or Progman) is the term used to describe the software for the car's systems, modules, etc. Most people think of it as the software for iDrive but if I'm not mistaken, it's possible that a CIP update can include updates to things like mappings for engine, transmission, etc.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm preparing for a chat with my dealer who doesn't seem to know what this is....also, of course, want to get the best update if that's a choice.

Thanks Rudy. Now, several more questions. Is this programable at the dealership and what do the different numerical levels represent? You have 20.02 in your signature; how do you know you have this level? I remember in previous quotes (Mind Candy?) that some levels seemed to affect performance.

Go here for list. http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=370432
Then do search for "bulletins" and you should find several post with the full pdfs or excerpts of several PROGMAN (formerly CIP) bulletins, including the latest. Any one of the latest pdfs contain a complete list of all CIPS from SOP and the major fixes (but not improvements). BMW expects you to guess at the "improvements".

Thanks for the help. I've perused the threads and PDF's you linked and these are extremely enlightening. Exactly what I needed to learn the CIP process (and pointers on how to handle my dealer.....!). Thanks for the input.

Keep in mind that the link to alldata, while helpful, does not contain all current TSBs and can be slow in getting new ones online. If there's an issue with the E60, you're much more likely to learn about it on this site first so, if you haven't already done so, bookmark this place too! ![Thumbsup](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/thumbsup.gif)
