Hi mathmos
UK Spec cars come with one in the front (assuming you do NOT specify the no smoker option!)
If you have the split rear seats, then BMW also put one in the trunk just under and to the right of the catch (inside)
If you want sockets in the rear centre console, you have to order a new trim piece which have the holes and lighter sockets already mounted.
The UK main wiring loom does not have the appropriate wires and connectors for these sockets so you have to wire them up yourself. The simplest thing to do is to wire them in parallel to the front socket. You have to lift out the centre console trim piece and console itself to get access to the necessary sockets. You then extend some heavy guage cables to the rear section and mate them up to the spade connectors (1/4 " ones like from Halfords etc..)
Hope that doesnt sound too complicated..
All the Best

Thanks Hobi! How easy is it to "lift out the centre console trim piece and console itself to get access to the necessary sockets"? and put it all back together again!
I need to have some power available in the rear for the kids DVD players. I haven't ordered split rear seats but it might be possible to still add them.

My 535d came with two in the rear as well as the one in the front - i haven't seen the one in the trunk, but I haven't looked that closely yet.

Hi
Is yours a 2005MY car? Or post week 9 2005 car?
I also have active seats but no ventilation as I did not want the perforated leather, so I can only guess that you have the rear sockets because of your particular configuration. If so, I stand corrected on that point.

[/quote]It's a post week 9 car; but I think you are right it is possibly something to do with the options (I did go a bit mad!)

The one in the trunk is really handy. used an air compressor to fill up some bicycle tires and location in trunk was so much easier.

In mine I have 1 in the front and 2 sockets with blanking plugs, not lighters, in the rear console. I didn't specify the non smokers package.
