Can anyone in Europe help me out? I am collecting my new 530d today and want to fit a set of the chrome vaned grilles from the 545i. My dealer advises me that BMW AG in Germany does not have these parts available and cannot tell me when they will be in stock. Can someone try their European dealer and see if you get the same answer. If you can order the parts I will gladly pay the dealer direct for shipping them to me if you can give me contact details.

Thanks.

There is usually an advertisement in Roundel for individual chrome slats that fit over the OEM vanes. I have never seen them in use, but I believe the ad states that satisfaction is guaranteed.

Just buy the grill as a spare part. It costs around 100 Euro (800 SEK) in Sweden. A friend of min was helped by BMW in Stockholm and my dealer has promised me to do the same thing. The price above is for the E39 grill but my dealer said that it probably would be the same.

Thanks for your replies. I am trying to get the grilles supplied as an OEM part from the dealer already - I didn't try to factory order the car with them. It is the dealers parts staff that have told me they can't get the grilles from Germany as there is no stock. This seems odd to me as BMW are evidently building 545's with these grilles and I can't believe that the grille supplier is struggling to cope with demand.
I drove from Calais to Amsterdam and back again in the last three days and only saw about 10 E60's in my entire journey.

I would be grateful if anyone can confirm that their local dealer backs up the story about BMW AG not having the grilles in stock.

Thanks again,

ISUK

I can hardly believe this, because they must have chrome kidneys in stock. What is when you have an accident with an 545i and need new chrome kidneys?

it may be that they will only sell you the chrome grille if you own a 545.

for instance, they require a VIN number if you want to buy M3 CSL parts

the 545 is much less exclusive so i dont know why they're giving you the run-around

let us know..

I would think that since the E60 is so new and there are so few 545s out there right now that filling the parts pipeline with exterior components is not BMW's No. 1 priority. Mechanical parts probably come first.

The dealer probably could order any part directly from Germany if he really wanted to. Air freight would have it to you in just a few days if it's an instock item.
