My Ride: E60 "Stripper" Now C6 "Stripper"
Question

It could be worse, like E60's built in Iraq.

Hopefully one wouldn't "feel" the difference.

Here You can see good example of Chinese build E60. How I know that this is Chinese build. Has to be because they don't import E60 to China!

Attachment 11530

Picture taken during Shanghai F1 race last weekend. I saw about 10 E60's and several 7-series starting 730 and ending 760. Also few older 3-series.

Let's get some fact straight.

1. E60 is assembled in China. The 1st year are being build as a kit (i.e. BMW shipped entire unassembled car as as kit to be assembled in china).

2. As Chinese factory gets up to speed and supplier setup locally. There will be more and more local content on the E60 build in china.

3. Like the E90 program that BMW has with BMW brilliance, the E60 both China domestic and import are available. The price difference is about 1/3 premium for the import version.

4. Unless you get inside the car and see where the manufacturer information sticker you can't tell the difference from the outside.

It may have been a poor translation of duck tongue... I can't comment on whether its served sweet and sour or chow mein.? ?

I just finished a book called Mr. China which describes the ill fated money making attempts of a Wall St Banker who invested $400M + in China in the mid '90's.? They describe the dinners they had at many remote mountain areas and I gained a lot of respect for the lengths to which Chinese gourmets go to make exotic dishes.? The author does mention that he threw-up after eating deer penis (a dessert delicacy) and I have to say I'm probably not up to the duck tongue or ox penis myself.? Of course, I just ate a hamburger for lunch, so what do I know about exotic food.

Now Dimsum, I can go for.? Although the best Dimsum I ever had was in Bangkok a few weeks ago.?

Anyway, to keep this on topic, I'll just mention that the Chinese BMW factory needs to make smaller cup holders for the smaller beverage containers found in China.

What is wrong with Duck tongue. It taste great and it one of my favorite!!!

They will! Because they can not meet the demand! 12000 cars last year and goal is 40000 this year.

I think it's "economy of BIG numbers"! 1,3 bilj. people and if on 0,001% of those want BMW it's already 13000! Calculate same % in US and You will be surpriced. For Chinese status is everything and local BMW cost same than imported E-series MB. Maybe also marketing is better in BMW camp?

I see here more 7-series in a day than in a month in Finland!

Actually the Chinese Built version is only available in E46 ( 318i, 325i), E60 (520i, 525i, 530i, 545i) the New 3 series E90 (320i, 325i) and possibly the 730I and 730LI. Rest of the model such like X5, 6 Series are still imported from Germany.

The price is indeed cheaper compared with the imported version. In the U.S., a 530I is almost the same price as the X5. But over there In China, the 530i is aprox. 618000 Yen (US$76202) compared to the imported X5 3.0 for aprox. 810000 Yen (US$99876).

Also someone purchased 3 new M5 just few days ago for 1770000 Yen each (US$218249). two of them is already delivered.

Damn, each 760i is like US$200000. all the 7 series i have seen are 730i sold for around US$110000.

The China built E60 specs are exactly the same as those built elsewhere. For every 18 BMWs sold in CHina, 1 is a 760. CHina now sells more BMWs than the whole of Asia and is BMW's fastest growing market in the world.
