i'm from northern california, but i'm here in lisle this week for business.

why are there so many bmw's here, especially e60's? in the hotel i'm staying in, there are 3 almost side by side, and i could see at least 2 or 3 (e60's!) everytime i go out to lunch or dinner. i'm in the warrenville/naperville/ogden area.

it's amusing to me, although my colleagues think i'm obsessed. i just think it's weird to see many e60's in one place.

(either that or everyone in lisle is rich, or e60's are selling like hotcakes)...

just curious.

Well, two things I can think of...

For one, the area is going through a period of prosperity, real estate is booming big time, salaries are up. Ask around about what Chicago's done with their low income housing and that will give you some idea.

Secondly, the Owner's Choice financing option is virtually tailor-made for Illinois.

OK, so there's one more thing, it's a great car and we're a lot smarter than we look! ;)

The Chicago area is well-served by 7 or 8 BMW dealers, many of which have been at it for 25+ years. So, we have easy access to BMW sales and service.

Naperville has been one of the fastest growing communities in American during the last 20 years, and it's getting somewhat affluent, so I imagine BMWs sell well in that area.

Chicago has been a BMW town for a while. When I first came here 25 years ago I was amazed at seeing a good number of 2002s, and then the 3 series was a huge seller here in the yuppie '80s (yes, me too).

At first, I didn't see many E60s here, but in the last 3 or 4 months it seems like they are everywhere!

Yes - there are a ton of E60s here - the vast majority are 530s and 525s. People here like the look and attitude of the car. Its the heart of the Midwest and close enough to Detroit to be home to many generations of car enthusiasts. People here know their carsl, and that speaks volumes with respect to the real world appeal of this car.

thanks guys. i showed this thread to my colleagues, and they were amazed that there's more "people like me" who are so into their cars. i just smiled.

they don't get it, and come to think of it, i'd rather keep it that way. :)
