Was wondering what would be the impact (rubbing, speed MPH indicator changes, etc...) if I changed my wheels from the 2004 sport's package stock 18" to the current new stock 128 19".?.

What I have now, stock 18":

New Stock 128 19":

I like these wheels too but don't know the size:

The impact would be that your car would look badass instead of boring! 128's rock!!!!! P.S. - Forget about 172s. Not only are they prone to bending, but every 550 has them which makes them "common".

I saw the 128 for the first time today and was like wow.

Would the total tire height be higher or would the tire be thinner? So the wheel gap would be different or the same?

Stick to the recommended tire sizes to go with the wheels (you can find those in tirerack.com and you will not have rubbing or spedo error.

172s are the best IMHO.

Hello Howitzer,

Could you elaborate on the 172's being prone to bending?

I'm currently shopping around for a set for my E61 but if they're really that vulnerable....

Thanks!

I'd like to hear that as well! I recall the old 124's having issues but I cannot recall anyone on this forum bending a 172...

A useful tyre size calculator for reference:

But I do agree w/ Howitzer, the 128's are sweet wheels! Definitely way less common then the 172's...

I just put on 172's and love em
Went with Cont Extreme All season tires from tirerack
Very good combo for me

You're right about the bend, it was 124's not 172's! Very sorry.
