- VW/Audi diesels are noisy as tractors, once I drove 520d I couldn't believe these are both diesels - I would bet I'm in a normal car in terms of noise!

That's exactly why I wouldn't get an Audi. The problem is exactly the same comparing a 530d and an A6 3.0TDI.

Don't do it!

I had the previous style A6 2.7T and really liked it, but passed on the new A6 as it has gone downhill in terms of style and interior quality. Driving the new A6 and 545i clinched the deal - it wasn't even close.

Same !!

Plus, my partner just got the new A6 4.2 because I didn't allow him to get the same car as I've got and boy he's upset with that car !!

I've had two A6's; a 2001 2.7T, and a 2003 4.2 and now I have a 2007 530XI. Believe me, there is no comparison. If you like going to the grocery store or driving at 30mph on back roads so you can enjoy the view buy the Audi. If you like the feel of being connected and in control, or like the challenge of taking that farmiliar corner 10 mph faster than normal, or in knowing you won't get screwed on the resale value. ( Audis resale sucks!) then your only choice is BMW.

It depends...

I was looking at A4, A6 and even waiting for S6...

To me, I like the interior of Audi. I think it is more luxurious than BMW... BMW interior seems a bit on the sport side where Audi focus on luxury segment of market. In term of performance, Audi is barely catching up with BMW, but "Automobile" Magazine did ranked Audi S6 above M5.

For me...I am getting a 550i

You will be able to enjoy the sea smell! As the Audi A6 drives and handles like a boat. Horrific car, that will be worth nothing once driven out of the garage. But the salesman will say, "no way that was the last model this one is going to be different!"

I dont think so. Why not try the skoda superb. I think they are built on the same floorplan
Skoda Superb is built on a previous generation Passat platform. The latest A6 is the best handling large audi yet. I tried the 2.0 TDI and found it quite fun to drive- It was grippy, quite pokey for a 2 litre and was quiet and comfortable. I had ordered a fully specced 2.0 multitronic S-line however there was a delay in linking the multitronic with the engine (front wheel drive torqe problems). The interior was luxurios and classy once you had specced it up, basic models do look very basic. I think its just short of the 5 series all round. If you fancy a change I think you can't go better than a A6. Whatever you do, you will make the right decision for you- and thats all that counts.

Hi,

I had a bitch of a time when trying to decide between the A6 3.0tdi Avant and the E61 530xdA (I eventually ended up getting a used E61 535d).

I am unsure weather You are getting a sedan or station-wagon. To me, the A6 sedan is very sleek, while the A6 Avant just looks too much like 2 bars of soap stacked on each other. The A6, however to many is less "obvious" than the 5-series. In Your heart - will You miss the attention ?

I (or rather the car ) get approving looks from the ladies when in my beemer - the car got none in the A6. Again, in Your heart, will You miss the attention ?

Come winter, I know I will miss the Audi's 4 wheel drive - will You miss rear-wheel feel ?

With the engines I tried, I found the A6 3.0tdi to lack the torque-oomph the 530d has - You might miss that depending on which engine You want (the A6 is almost equal in numbers, and still a stellar engine )

The A6 is not as good to drive as the e60/e61 - how much does that matter to You ? It is still much better than the old A6.

Audi has (in my view ) superior
interior quality. Perhaps more significantly, the Audi is more practical. It has sensible cup-holders,enough power-outlets and better compartments for stuff. Also, at least the Avant can be fitted with an excellent luggage-securing system.

All-in-all to me (although both choices were vastly less sensible than a Scoda Superb ), the A6 would have been the logical, sensible choice.

I just did not want to always have to be sensible !

I also tried a 3.0TDi Quattro S-line. It was OK, but the seats were hard and so was the ride, even compared to 5 series MSport. It was also much noisier on the motorway. Not to mention that the 530D is more powerful too.

If you're looking hard for a positive, the Audi take on iDrive is better thought out than BMWs. But even then, I rather like our iDrive

But as someone said earlier - it's your money !

Admin, EXCILE the TRAITOR!

You will miss the higher quality interior on the BMW, Audis uses too much plastic/rubber on their interiors which makes the interior look very cheap

<_< weird, Audi always wins best interior every year?
