Always worried with the SMG that the clutch would wear out and I'd have like 2K bill to replace it just because its SMG.

My 545 has 120t km , I don`t know tahat is neccesary to change the cluch, I just wanna know does anybody do that?
Mine is a 2005 545 with smg and 47,000 miles. It was slipping and was changed under warrenty. The part itself is less than $300 USD but not sure about labor...they also have to do the reset and the "learn in" for the new clutch

There aren't that many smg drivers out there first of all,
and out of those few, they haven't driven(well, most of them) past 70k+ miles
where needing for a replacement window starts.
I'm too at 47k miles as of today and no issues with tranny, clutch, etc whatsoever.
Unless defected, properly driven smgs' should last past 100k miles.
If you go to E46 M3 forums, gently driven M3's clutch lasted past 100k miles.
And the average replacement point was around 70k miles(clutch began to slipping).
Since E60 drivers tend to drive a lot less agressively than those M3 drivers, I think
why can't our clutch last just as long if not longer.
I called few indy shops around me and they want around $500-550 for labor(6-7 hrs @75 an hour).
As nikko64 said, clutch should run little less than $300 but why not spend another $200ish for the new flywheel
while you replace. I always replaced the clutch and the flywheel at the same time even though the flywheel was
perfectly fine. My theory is depending on the car, you are paying close to $1000 in total for clutch replacement,
why not spend another couple hundred bucks on parts and replace *possible/preventative parts* while doing it.
Think about another labor cost for just the flywheel later on the road in less than a year or two?
Afterall, you can guestimate the life of flywheel but never certain.
I always had that peace of mind that my clutch and flywheel should be good for another ____ miles compare
to my clutch is fine but how long my flywheel gonna last.
