changed to non-runflat tires
i recently bought a 06 550i that needed tires when i bought it.
well, few days later, i had a flat on the highway. those runflats work as advertised. i kept going at highway speed.
i pulled over and tried filling the tire, but air was gushing out by the bead. so i went to the local tire place, and was suprised they actually had the oem bridgstone potenza runflats in stock. they also had the all season potenza re960 in stock, for a lot less. i like the fact that these have better tread wear, and are all season....... <flashback> its not fun when going down the highway in an m3 with performance tires and it starts to throw snow flurries, and all the sudden you start spinning 360's
luckily i ended up just sliding into grass.
plus the fact that we have a spare, i went with the allseason non-runflat tires.
the ride is definetly smoother with the 960.

I recently purchased a set of 124's that do not have runflats. I was thinking of changing to runflats but it seems, from what I read here, that I need to stick with regular performance tires.

I would maybe entertain a set of RF's on a non sport model, but on the sport model with RF's its a little too harsh even for my taste tbh.
Being in Germany, where driving over 100mph is a daily occurence, I fancy my chances more with my RFTs.

Run flat tyre should be ban from BMW, it ruins the ride and handling

I understand the idea for RFT's, but in all my years of driving, I've never had a catastrophic blowout, it's always a slow leak.
That being said, I'm sure there is a blowout in my immediate future now!
But as I have always checked my tires, I replace them before most blowouts would occur, so for me RFT's are an expensive, performance robbing option for my car!
And why exactly would I want to do that??
