We had a vacuum leak on my wife's car, a buddy found the culprit to be the ventilation hose running from the dipstick to oil separator. I ordered one, and changed it, and now I am getting a TON of smoke upon cold startup. Any ideas what to check? Could I have bumped something that could cause this? I felt around and everything seems to be attached, just not sure where to go first. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

n53, 2004 530i. Is there a way to check it easily to see if that is the problem before I throw parts at the car? Forgot to mention, there was a check engine light for a lean code due to the vacuum leak (which is now gone). Is it possible the ecu attempted putting more fuel in the tune to overcome the lean code, and now that the vacuum leak is gone it is pouring too much fuel in? On ls1's we would reset the ecu and let it do a relearn. Do these cars have similar features?

Also, what all is required to get to the ccv to change it?
Thanks!

Edit: Found the diy for it. Still wondering if that is the problem before we put all the effort to change it.
