CDV removal > Much much better shifting
Removed the cursed CDV from the N62 transmission. A breath of fresh air going through the gears...smooth as a whistle.
Look at that tiny shitty hole...What on earth were they tninking for crying out loud.......
Can you help me understand how the removal makes things more smooth? My understanding is that the CDV can do nothing but make things more smooth. I acknowledge that it might delay some of your foot pedal actions slightly but it would not make any actions more swift (which I believe would leave to jerkiness). Doesn't the CDV simply prevent you from "dropping the clutch"? Thanks for posting pictures.

You are absolutely right. The restrictor actually enforces the smoothness and thats exactly the problem. What you want, or at least I want, is a direct connection between foot and clutch. Variying between engaging and disaengaging. This allows quick as well as slow engaging of the clutch and thats not possible with a restrictor. The clutch engaging becomes way more predictable without restrictor.

Hope this explains it.....

You still have the dual mass flywheel with built-in dampening.

True that so it definetely does not behave as race clutch. Doesn't even come close to that but the directness and feel has improved dramatically. I recommend the mod to any manual transmission driver. I'm a 100% certain you won't regret it. By the way its a very simple 2 hour mod. No need to be an expert whatsoever.
They make CDV delete fittings that just go in place of the CDV and then there is no stressing of anything.
That's why I was asking the question. I did the CDV Delete several times on a few E39's and inserted a drilled valve in place of the removed one. I'm wondering if the process is the same.

No need for any fittings. The CDV itself is about 30 mm. What happens is the complete metal line between the cylinder and the metal-to-tube bracket will move. You only have to bend the bracket a bit and the direction the whole thing goes is actually towards the tube instead of away so all room to play for.
