CDV Deleted and going for Dinan Stage 1
#1
Well first off good thing I had a lift to R&R the CDV last night. From the DIY documents I found it looked a lot easier to get to. Wow what a difference. I was starting to think I didn't know how to drive stick until I replaced the CDV with a modified one.
Now I'm going to get my first Dinan fix. I know it's only stage 1, but it's a start.

They tried the software upgrade and it failed. Apparently from the screenshot they showed me, the Dinan PDA was able to read my cars info, but the output file created by the Dinan device was faulty. One of the screens mentioned my care was built in 1949.
Grr, a waste of a half a day. They said Dinan is some what slow to return calls... they hope to hear back next week.

Congrats on the CDV mod. I tapped mine open and as you have stated, it made a nice difference in how the clutch engages. I still don't understand the CDV goal/concept.

My understanding of the purpose of the CDV is to prolong the life drivetrain from aggressive gear changes, by putting in a clutch delay valve the drive is forced to take long in shifts. Of course thats only my opinion, but for the record my Z4 has a CDV which i plan to remove at the earliest opportunity as it is making me look like i cant manage a clutch.
Well done on the CDV delete....

So BMW installed the CDV to prolong the drivetrain while potentially reducing the life of the clutch? I think most of us who chose to drive manually transmissioned cars know a thing or two about proper gear change processes.

I might be wrong of course, but i agree does sound odd. I think i read about the CDV first on E46fanatics when i had my 330, i find the CDV frustrating it really screws up a smooth gear change.
Just found a link to a explaination of what this annoying valve is: CDV

They provide a free CDV service and they are local enough for me to drive over there. Guess I should prepare for my pilgrimage
