Fellas the IDrive on my 2004 545 went out....... Is this common? Damn I'm mad....... Any ideas how much a new one will cost? used? How hard will it be to find a replacement. I'm assuming that all I need to replace is the CCC is there something else I should be considering? Anything I need to look out for if i buy used?

Once you get your new CCC, you might have to code it to the specifications of your car.

Ebay, forums, craigslist are a few and patrik that is on this forum. Maybe take a look at the updated CCC or if you have the money, go with a CIC system.

CIC retrofit = ~$3000

CCC (remanufactured) = $650 (getbmwparts.com) or PM member Evan@Tichser here on this site for pricing

CCC (used) = $450-600 (bmrparts.com)

I went with option 3 when I had to replace mine, haven't had a problem since. You won't find new ones anymore, they don't make them anymore. Closest to new you can get is remanufactured.
And yes, you will have to code it for your car or all the features may not work. Not sure if I would trust eBay "deals", I'd rather have a "throat to choke" if there's problems.

I saw the complete set for the CIC for $1200 on ebay (CIC, screen and idrive knob). If You can go the extra mile I would go with the retrofit. You didn't give a lot of details but make sure your CCC is shot before you go spending. There is a fuse on the back of it and the other fuse in the fuse boxes, there is also a place in California that does repairs for about $200, not sure what they are called but members here have used them before, search for CCC repair either here or google.

still a $3k project in my eyes
