Caught a flat

I was driving home on the Garden State parkway the other day when my FTM sensor came on saying I have a flat. I pulled over on the shoulder to check but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary so I got back in the car and kept driving. About 10 minutes later, I started to feel the car vibrating and I knew there was something wrong, luckily I was about a 1/2 mile to the next rest area so I pulled over. Tried to put air back on the rear driver side tire but it wasn't holding, that's when I thought I might have punctured my tire.

Took out the spare and proceeded to remove the rear wheel and check out what I found. Is this something that they would cover as warranty? I've had the rims on for about 5-6 months and I don't think it should just break this way. Could have I ran it too far with having low tire pressure to cause this? It sucks that I had to put back my 138's back on, I was hoping to get a little bit more out of my summer setup.

You don't say if you have run-flats.However,with non-run flats,just driving a few miles with a puncture will destroy the tyre wall internally.Your pictures suggest that you ran over an object which damaged the tyre or it is a manufacturing defect which caused the failure.

driving on a low tire scrubs the sidewalls real bad. always pull over asap with a low tire, if you want to use it again.

You're running very low profile tires ... With them it's virtually impossible to "see" if the tire pressure is low. You should ALWAYS confirm with a tire gauge. Driving only a few miles with an under-inflated conventional tire will cause the failure you have experienced.

BTW, that's one of the benefits of RFTs ... and if it's any consolation I too had a TPMS alert yesterday. Checked the rear tire visually (245/40x18) - looked OK but when I checked it with a gauge it was at 30psi (instead of 42). Pumped it up to 45psi and called my indy mechanic 5 miles away. Drove there Removed a drywall screw and patched it up.

No tire harm ... slight inconvenience.

My advice to you ... keep a good digital tire gauge in your car. And a compact 12v compressor is cheap insurance if you don't have RFTs. (DO NOT use those cans of flat tire repair goo)

Thanks man .. I hope I dont have to spend money on a new tire, I'd rather spend that money on an M5 bumper and splitters.
