catalytic converter replacement
Check engine popped up....Took it to the dealer (still under CPO warranty), as it was due for scheduled oil maintenance anyway.
Turns out, after testing it needs replacing of the catalytic converter.
Again it's still under warranty -with that being said...is there anything I should be concerned with getting the car back or questions I should ask? I would think this is a simple job for a BMW service center to perform?
Anyone had this done?

Not sure? -I know they did a 4hr program to see if that cleared it...but the service manager called me back saying the cat failed after the update and would need to be replaced.
Main question is if I need to be worried about anything upon getting the car back, or is this pretty simple for BMW to swap out...

changing the cat is no big deal. its part of the exhaust system, and just bolts in.
i'd be more concerned as to why it failed, so that it dont fail again. inside a cat is like a fine honeycomb structure where gases pass through and get converted to less harmful emmisions. usually they fail when they get plugged up or contaminated. did your car have a bad o2 sensor or fuel injector before? burn any oil? running rich and burning oil can kill a cat.

I will ask BMW for sure tomorrow -The part is slated to arrive and the repair is supposed to be completed Tuesday.
This e60 has 49k on it. And a good service record, runs great...no issues.

Service manager said once they pull it off they will take a look inside the cat to determine the possible cause.
Wondering now if there is a more serious issue found causing the failed cat, if they'll actually address it.

how long have you had the car? do you do a lot of short trip drives? that may cause issues since the catalytic converter never gets hot enough to burn off exhaust emissions. but i see you're in vegas, so the car is hot before you start the car probably. lol
