Hi, I read a service bulletin about this issue that was released in January or February of this year which refers to 'Unfavourable Neutral Idle Control (NIC)' and suggests the car software be upgraded to the latest integration level which it sounds like most of you have done, however it also goes on to say that for the more discerning driver, if the software upgrade does not sufficiently improve the situation, then on a "Customer Complaint Basis Only" the dealer should fit a retrofit kit, to disable the NIC feature which will cure the problem. The SIB did cover slight more detail than what I have put above.

Have any of you had this retrofit done which seems to address the problem further ???? By the way, the upgrade is covered by the terms of the warranty I read.

Regards

Melv

PS I also have the 'Jolt' effect when I pull away in the warming up stages of the car and the software upgrade 2 months ago did improve matters but I was not keen for BMW to start fitting kits to the car to disable features as a way to cure as this seemed like a work around and not a proper fix, but I would like to hear from anyone who has had the latter stage of this done.

Here is what they did:

Auto trans diagnosi

c/s transmission not shifting properly

DME software confliction

goodwill repair per rte

interogated fault mem., no fault stored.

reprogrammed complete vehicle due to DME update. Possible software confliction.

updated complete vehicle and test drove vehicle. could not duplicate after repair.

SIB 24 03 09 does not apply based on production date

newest version of DME factory installed in vehicle
This is the exact SIB I had done about 2 weeks ago. Was fine for about a week but still feeling rough shift/slam here and there.

Screw a "Goodwill" repair, they SHOULD be replacing your transmission, I went through all the software upgrades etc. and the ONLY cure was a new transmission! Also the "Goodwill" money at BMW comes from a different source than the warranty repair money, and they are more than happy to spread that around in lieu of actual repairs! Be vigilant and get your transmission!

Did they replace the transmission in your car? If so? How hard was it to convince them and how long did it take? I have been to the dealer 4 times for this problem. Every time they reprogrammed the software, but it does not cure the problem. BMW NA are you listening/ reading? Step up!!! Fix our cars once and for all. I have almost spent $200k on cars at my current dealer through out the years, you think that they would give BMW a little push.

Mine was replaced earlier this year (after months of attempted repairs), it took constant pressure on my part, but it DID work, so don't give up!!

Not going to give up. Contacted BMW NA Customers Relation Thursday as advised by my SA and they told me that they will do some investigation and get back to me next week. Hope this finally leads to a proper fix for this problem.
