Took my car in Tuesday for the famous "tranny slam". This is the 4th visit to the dealership for same problem. Dealer had it for 3 days now, I called them this afternoon and the SA said that they are attempting to reprogram with new "updated" software. I told them that they reprogrammed it back in February and it was good for a few weeks then it came back. He said that this is more updated software and that they are not ready to replace tranny yet. I notice that it is worse when AC is running and in S mode. Got my fingers crossed.

I seem to be having a similar problem. Had the software updated but still persists. Interested to hear what the dealer tells you.

Got the car back, they say that they reprogrammed the entire car with new software. I don't have the paper work with me, but I will post the software version later. They told me that the BMW bulletin regarding tranny problem did not apply to my car because of production date, but they updated the software as a "good will" repair. I told them that I really didn't care if it applied or not, but I have the stated syptoms in the bulletin. The car feels better, but the jerking when coming to a stop is still there when the car is cold. Once it warms up, it is much better. I am beginning to think that there is no cure for our tranny problems.

On a side note, I was given a 328i w/ X drive with steptronics tranny as a loaner. That car stopped smooth and perfectly each and every time. I fumed a little at the SA and basically told them why won't BMW step up and admit that the physical tranny has a problem that software will not cure. It is really sad that we spend $70k+ on a car and BMW won't stand behind it and replace what ever is neccessary. I am sure that it is a lot more expensive to remove and replace transmission parts than to reprogram the software. BMW should put the transmission mercedes have in the E550 in the 550i. That would be a great combo.

There should be a recall on this. My car does it too and its embarassing when you have people in the car. Everybody has there software changed and it does not fix it. I had mine check when i was under warranty and they said they saw no problem. Now that my car is not under warranty I cant do nothing. They dont understand that the car dosent do it all the time.

I couldn't agree more, maybe all of us that has this problem should sign a petition and send it to BMW NA, apparently our dealership is not doing enough to persuade BMW to replace the transmission.

It sounds like a design flaw. Replacing the trans with another flawed one would only start slamming again after a year. I wonder if the f10 trans would fit?

My car does this at times as well...It's very annoying and as somebody said earlier "It's embarassing when you have people in the car!" Spending this much money on a car, you'd think they could come up with some kind of solution to the problem....
