not in the US my friend. we do pay sales tax on vehicles at purchase. luxury tax on high end vehicles. If you lease, you pay sales tax each month on the lease payment. there is also registration fees (tag/license plate fees) from the states department of motor vehcles. each state is different. some states you need to renew you license plate and pay a fee every two years, most states every year. it depends on the state and the value of your vehicle. mine was like 20 or 30 US dollars for the year

...of course we also pay auto insurance. i pay about 200 US dollars per month, but i am completely covered if i am in an accident. My car will be replaced each person in my vehicle or a vehicle i hit (if it is my fault) can sue me for set amount and my inurance company will cover it. the higher the coverage, the more the monthly premium. right now i think each person in my vehicle or a vehicle i hit is covered for 75,000 USD with a maximum of a 300,000 USD payout. if they sue for more, the government can garnish wages or reposess personal property since i dont have a lot of money laying around. however, this rarely happens. usually people will settle with the insurance company for an amount equal to or less then the maximum amount i am covered for.

Some states do have a "registration" fee. Mine was about $120.00 for two years. To me that is a car tax...

Reg fees on a new car: 180% + VAT (25%).

Tax renewal each year: on a E60: $1.200-1.500.

Just got mine for 825 euro for the year.
thats on a 2.2 engine.
It's a rip off here. They use the road tax to bail out the banks.
The government just got a brutal kicking in the recent elections, but unlike England where they resign when they get caught, in Ireland they stay on and no-one gets touched.
Brutal.
