A while ago I noticed that my 535d was running at a different temperature than normal.
Usually I have 4 visible white bars round the rev counter and now I have 6-7.
On a diagnostic test the glow plugs gave an error and the garage thought this may be affecting the smooth running. I have had these changed but the temp issue is still there.
My feeling is a failing thermostat as sometimes in heavy traffic the car gets up to normal temp 4 bars, but most of the time (even on a run) it stays stuck between 6-7 bars. Equally I have seen a drop in fuel economy.
Does anyone have any suggestions what may be at fault?
Thanks

Main thermostat or EGR thermostat.
Use the hidden menu to monitor the temperatures more accurately. The engine coolant temps should stay around 88-92°C or something. When DPF regeneration is on, the temps will rise even up to 94-95°C.
Hidden menu instructions.
