About a grand if both. Depends on who you use and where you get parts. What I'd do is go to a trusted mechanic and get the car diagnosed first. Unfortunately, too many people just replace both without really getting into it, but if you have a good mechanic, you will not have to waste hundreds (if not thousands) on his elimination process. So you go to a good mechanic and get the car diagnosed. Then I recommend you use of the two OEM parts vendors on this forum (Garry Romani and Tischer BMW - search and ya shall find ), so that you save some money on the parts - they provide standing discounts to forum members of ~20-25%... you get the idea, right?

it doesnt cost a grand to fix the water pump AND thermostat. Thermostat around $120. Water pump is around $260. Labor should be around $300 or so. Gotta check with my tech. Should be around $700.

You can save alot of money on the parts. I've been checking on the these same parts for when the inevitable happens to my car. I can pick up the thermostat for $46.13 and the water pump for $169.31 plus the cost of shipping. This is from BMW dealership in Lincoln Nebraska. Check with the dealership in New Jersey that sells parts for less, I can't remember the name of the place, I'm sure someone from up that way knows who it is.
