Dear fellow members, my car jerk when about to come to a complete stop. My passengers are complaining that it is very uncomfortable. It is happening pretty often now. What do you think is the problem? My car is a 2005 523i and mileage is 84,000km. My car is modified by the previous owner with DMS and a plug and play type Sprint Booster. Different workshop is telling me different things, pls assist.

I don't experience this with my '07 530xi ... but my e38 740i started doing that and before long the auto trans went to failure. Without any additional information it sounds to me as if it's like the torque converter lock-up / un-lock when those were 100% controlled hydraulically.

So, if the transmission was not getting the signal to unlock the torque converter, as you drove to a stop the sudden unlocking felt like a jerk.

Today's transmissions are sooooo electronic

Try this, as you are coming to a stop slip the transmission into neutral ... if the jerk doesn't happen it may be necessary to have the transmission investigated by a BMW Trained Indy or BMW service center. It may be something "simple" like a s/w fix.

I have noticed that ever since I have my car. You need to either get used to it ( easy for the driver but never easy for the passengers ) or try to make a slow and smooth stop. Another thing that I have noticed is that the car moves a little after you pulled up the hand brake and released the foot brake. That's just BMW or is it not ?

Same here on both counts. Agreed on the slow smooth stop. I can get the car to not jerk, when concentrating on it.

It's just a crappy transmission, most e60 do that. I drive in "manual" mode most of the time and "jerkiness" is much less pronounced since I guess the computer is less involved in this mode. BTW my car jerks not only when stopping but also when driving very slowly.
Overall I must say E60 has the worst transmission I ever had in terms of smooth action, but it's much more responsive than Audi's for example.
