Thats what I'm saying too. If the key holes didn't work with a dead battery you would be stranded. No way can this be possible.

[/quote]your friend probably misunderstood the key and the remote are two different things but it's the same. i've never heard of someone can't open the door by using the correct car key

He turned the key the wrong direction...
Or he use his key on the wrong car...
Seriously: If there would be a defect, he would not have been able to get in to the car before the dealer opened the door and fixed the problem. The door lock is not something that is based on the idrive software, so any defect would be there for ever (until it got fixed). Has definately nothing to do with the low/dead battery.
