got the Door Open showing on bottom of screen and the picture of car in warning area. Trick is you have to be in motion, and not standing still.
Even my '97 Honda Accord LX warns of an open door when the car is stopped or not even started.

This should be requested to be changed by BMW. I can see a door flying open, a kid falling out because the driver wasn't paying attention to the display. Even with the chime, it should be displayed any time a door is not closed properly, just like my old Honda.

It gets displayed as soon as the car moves... If you are taking off with launch control it might be a problem and your kid would fall out of the car... But in normal driving situations... I don't think it will be a problem...
Anyways, it wouldn't hurt us if we have it allways displayed...even when the car is not moving...
I'll add that to my next list...

Don't give BMW NA any ideas please. The god forsaken accept screen is enough!

That was the way it was on the E46. IMHO I like the 5 series system more because it only warns you if there is a problem and not when somebody gets out of the car when your engine is running at a standstill

Leave the door open, hold it with your left hand and drive through the parking lot. You'll see it. I was cleaning my car today and turned it around with trunk and drivers door open. You'll hear the chime and get the warning message. On the control display in the dash board, and the HUD, probably on the idrive screens bottom line too.
I've a question - does the display warning also indicate which car door is ajar, just like E46 ?

But it wouldn't hurt having it... And once the car gets in motion you could get the warning chime...

I agree, totally true, plus the fact that it is safer if you have kids..

In my opinion, it is too late to warn the driver after the car is in motion. I tested it today. Left my door open as backing up. Dash display showed driver door open. It should have come up when puting the car in gear and thus preventing damage to a rear door someone left ajar.
