Model Year: 2006
Engine: 3 liter
Default Cannot synch garage door opener

I just got this 530xi and it comes with a universal garage door opener. I can't get it to accept my garage opener.

The opener unit is 1 year old, Genie with Intellicode 2, the rolling code type.
I push both buttons 1 and 3 under the mirror to clear programming, light flashes.
I push button 1 and at the same time the working remote for the garage opener.

The LED at the bottom of the mirror never flashes quickly to accept the frequency.

Anyone saw this before and what is the solution?

I had the same issue with my 530xi. I did the same steps as you listed but before i started, i pushed the learn botton on the garage door unit. Follow the steps and it worked for me. Hope this helps.

It sounds like you are having your problem at the step where you hold the button in the car and hold the remote button inches away to get the fast flashing light?
If so you must get that fast flash before you can sync with the opener.
I've done this on several cars and found you must have a VERY fresh battery in the genie remote to make it work.

after the system is reset like your doing by holding 1 & 3, try different positions of the teaching remote. As it sits in your car normal position, turn it 180 and point it back at the mirror and try different distances. Once the lights on the mirror realizes the remote, then I have to go to the garage motor and press the purple learn button and then return to the car and press the button that I was trying to program. Mine does seem to be picky at times and I actually have to reprogram today because one is not working now.

I have Genie garage opener as well. It is picky SOB. You can program Genie remote controls from the first try though I barely got it to program my wife's and my own E60. It literally took me several days to succeed. My garage opener came with 3 remote controls, 2 standard and one keychain kind. Use only the standard remote control to program the mirror. The step where it fails consistently is learning step on the garage door opener. Watch the LED on the garage door opener. You can use original garage door opener and program it to the garage opener as a reference.

do this buddy, since it's a rolling code type the universal remote inside the car will learn the frequency only, not the exact code/combo.

1. clear current code if needed by holding down button 1 and 3
2. hold down button 1 or whatever you want preset, 1,2,or 3 and when the led starts flashing, hold down your current garage door remote next to the universal remote inside the car (assuming the mirror), and the led will flash quickly indicating that learning process has been established.
3. Go to your garage door opener motor and hit the learn / program new remote button. then get back in your car and hit the selected button you programmed earlier.

Did you try to hold the Genie REALLY close to BMW opener when trying to sync?
