I was in my car last night trying to connect a laptop to the OBD-II port when I noticed this unusual thing. The OBD-II scanner detected RPMs, so I decided to rev my car to about 1500RPM, but I could not keep it at a steady 1500. It kept climbing until I let my foot off the accelerator. I attempted to keep a steady 1500rpm...it was hard to even get it there because it felt like the car was resisting. Take a look at this video I created a few minutes ago and tell me what you think.

This is very important to me because the 6-Year / 100,000 mi Extended BMW Warranty expires on October 10th!! NEXT SUNDAY!!

Thanks,
Carl

FYI - This issue was caused by a leaking Valve Cover Gasket causing the engine to lose vacuum.

Thanks for posting result. How did you diagnose the problem?

I brought it to BMW and had them check the entire car the day before the warranty expired. They said the engine was leaking oil and had to replace the upper timing cover gaskets...they were just changed in January. After I questioned it, they said the tech who initially installed them in January messed up. The corner of the gasket was bent over which caused the leak. BMW had to eat the cost of that repair b/c CPO will not cover the repair the 2nd time.

That's interesting that this resolved your issue. I've checked mine and I do not see any visible gasket failures or oil leaks. I have a similar problem but I diagnosed it to the hall sensors in the pedal.
