Can anyone assist me with reputable places in Toronto, Canada to have a Wind Shield or front glass fixed as Im sure the "Stealer" (Dealer) wants way too much.

Its for a 2004 545i SMG with sport pack.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks this site is the greatest.
If you want to save yourself a pretty penny go with the aftermarket windshield Herculite tempered. Champion Motors is very fair in pricing and they do outstanding work...the only people i let work on my car...ask for Peter and you could tell him Andy sent you...They are located @ 1861 O'Connor Drive (Victoria Prk & O'Connor) 416 751-8047.

P.S. you may want to take pics before replacing your windshield some people may question why you did so.

Canadian auto sales fall 25.3 per cent

TORONTO ? General Motors of Canada Ltd. suffered a 46.6 per cent decline in January sales from a year earlier, pacing an over-all slump of 25.3 per cent in the industry.

Chrysler Canada Inc. sales skidded 33.7 per cent from January, 2008, and Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd. was down 14.2 per cent.

Industry figures released Tuesday show Toyota Canada Inc. was off 2.7 per cent, including its premium Lexus brand, while Honda Canada Inc. sagged 37.1 per cent, including Acura.

Industry analyst Dennis DesRosiers noted that January is the slowest month of the year for vehicle sales, but said ?Canada has clearly joined the global automotive recession and is bringing a lot of companies with it.?

On the positive side, South Korean auto maker Hyundai Auto Canada Inc. posted an 18.9 per cent sales gain, while Japan's Mitsubishi Canada Ltd. was up 9.1 per cent and Suzuki Canada Inc. rose 4.3 per cent.

But over-all, Mr. DesRosiers said, it was ?a very difficult month for the industry,? and GM, Ford and Chrysler ?are having a hard time breaking through the perception that they are in trouble, which is turning a lot of consumers away from their dealers.?

GM Canada said its dealers delivered 14,254 units ? 5,034 cars, down 60 per cent from a year ago, and 9,220 trucks, down 34 per cent.

?January sales continued to reflect the overall Canadian market challenges seen at the end of 2008,? commented Marc Comeau, GM Canada's vice-president of sales.

Mr. Comeau added that the Canadian market leader ?is well positioned to respond to improving consumer credit and confidence we hope and expect to see in the months ahead.?

Ford Canada gained market share on the month, as its 14.2 per cent drop ? passenger-car sales down 20.9 per cent to 2,264 and light trucks off 12.2 per cent at 8,669 for a total of 10,933 vehicles sold ? outperformed the industry as a whole.

But Mr. DesRosiers noted that this is the start of the 15th year of market-share losses by the three Detroit-based auto makers as a group.

?It's no secret that today's automotive market is tougher than a 10-cent steak,? commented Reid Bigland, president of Chrysler Canada, where sales fell to 11,259 units ? the second-highest total in the market for the month.

Toyota registered a 0.3 per cent increase in Toyota-branded cars and trucks to 9,681 ? its best January ever ? driven by big gains for its Ontario-built Corolla, Matrix and RAV4.

But Lexus sales sagged 35 per cent to 588, which the Japan-based auto maker attributed to ?anticipation of new and refreshed models ... that will be arriving in dealerships soon.?

Honda-branded sales fell 39 per cent to 6,460, while Acura was down 26 per cent at 1,099. The car maker, which assembles Civics and two Acura models in Ontario, said these declines ?reflect our expectations,? as year-ago numbers were boosted to twice the monthly average by special sales initiatives.

Results were mixed for high-priced German imports, with BMW Canada Inc. down 20 per cent at 880, Audi losing 32 per cent to 388 and Porsche Automobil Holding SE down 28.5 per cent to 88, but Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc. up 10 per cent at 1,178.

Volkswagen Canada Inc. sales, meanwhile, were down 1.6 per cent at 1,893.

Option Code Question; I had my local dealer print out my option list today and there are a couple of codes that I am curious about. Does any one know what "0838 Canada Specifications" means? Or how about "01CA CO2 Relevant Vehicle" and "0823 Hot-climate Version". Most of them are fairly straightforward but those have me wondering. Is this info published anywhere?

New member here from Okotoks Alberta (just south of Calgary). Please excuse if I'm doing anything wrong.
I'm actually a wannabe looking to get a 550 and probably from south of the border. Anybody have experience with this? Local dealer tells me that the speedo pod and heater controls need to be replaced??? to get car certified for up here. CAD$2400 for parts and 900 labour ostensibly to get the DRL's working. Also want $500 plus GST for the recall letter. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi There,

Unfortunately, i believe the dealer has you by the N_ _ S !!!! the rules have changed since i brought my vehicle in....
I brought in my 545 a year ago from New York . The dealer advised me that they needed to change the Cluster and activate the DRL's and I needed to get the $500 recall letter in order to honour the warranty. I had already had the DRL's activated for 350.00 at a BMW specialist, so inpsite of this the dealer wanted to charge me 3k to get up to code....A TOTAL RIP OFF! I ended up calling BMWNA and tore a strip off of them regarding this issue. They in turn called Calgary BMW and the dealer was very quick to change their tune and ended up completeing warranty work i requested. I was lucky that i bought the car when i did. Have you checked www.riv.ca? you will find a list of procedures that need to be completed in order to bring a U.S vehicle into Canada.... Good Luck!

P.S. the cluster really does not need to be changed..this is a cash grab! DRL's can be activated without changed the cluster....In fact the U.S. cluster has Km/H as well as MPH...i still have my U.S cluster in place and everything works great!
