I know this has to do with the alternator. Is the hydraulic belt the same as a timing belt? Is it the most important belt?

I am not a mechanic but do undestand quite a bit about cars. The hydraulic tensioner looks like a small shock absorber with a pulley attachment that put tension to your serpentine belt which ties up your crank shaft pulley, alternator, air-con compressor, power steering and fan.
Base on the diagnostics, it seems you have a defective hydrolic tensioner pulley bearing. I believe this are 2 separate parts #.
Hope it helps GL

I went to the dealer because of a whistling noise under the hood that sounded like a belt, bearing, or alternator and they fixed that. Today the same noise still exists! Don't they test drive these things, next to a building or going through a drive through you can really hear it loudly after the engine warms up.

You will need to replace one of the alternator's belt tensioners.(a device that keeps tour belt tensioned).
You could find out exactly which one you'll need to change by going on www.bmwfans.info, and type in the codes that you got on the left of the page.
Good luck!

It's not really a squealing noise. It is a strait whistling noise. I took it back to the stealer yesterday and they are still working the problem. They think it might be the air conditioning compressor. The tech was using a stethoscope to find the whistling noise. I should get a call back today.

They just replaced the AC compressor. Can someone show me how and where to look up what was replaced? Like the pic above.
