My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
So my flat tire monitor went on yesterday, I went to the gas station to check pressures and discovered a rear tire was only 20 psi. I filled it up to 40. I checked again today and it had gone back down to 30. So it seems I got a puncture.
I hit a pretty nasty metal plate (NYC uses them to cover road repairs) on the highway on Saturday night. This was the only thing I can think of that could've caused it.
Can I just go to some cheap tire shop and plug it up? Or do I have to go to the dealer? Do I need to have them check the wheel too?
Sorry if these questions are stupid. I'm a RFT newbie, and don't want to buy an expensive RFT after only 4k miles.

See what your tyre shop says!

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Supposedly not, but we could hope for a bad valve stem. I will be interested in what an otherwise-qualified tire shop says or does about it, versus your friendly dealer. I dread this too, as I manage to get a flat a year, on average. Let us know, so we can put another spike in the continued use of these nuisance tires.

My Ride: OLD RIDE- 2004 Titanium Silver Metallic 545I, Sports Package, 6 Speed Manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats.
NEW RIDE- 2005 Silver Gray Metallic 545I, Sports package, 6 Speed manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Navigation, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats, Heated Rear Seats and Park Distance Control.
I had one repaired at NTB for $46.00 that included removing the tire, patching the hole from inside followed by mounting and balancing. At the time, I was pretty mad about the cost but if the alternative is buying a new tire then it was a bargain!

They CAN be repaired! Just have to find a shop that will be willing to deal with Run-flats as they are harder to pull off and put back on. If you have a Just Tires near you, I suggest you try there because they do tire patching for FREE!! I asked them why and they say they do it to get returning customers. I had two nail punctures fixed by them.

Had mine patched last friday and no problems after 1200 miles. Only $15 at Big-O tires.
