My Ride: On Order, due in May - 2007MY 530D SE, Silver Grey, Black Dakota, Auto, Brushed aluminium shadowline, sports seats / wheel, hi fi speakers, mats, space saver wheel and a few more bits
Passed a suspicipus looking white van with the back doors open and did not see what it was (doing 110 on way to hopital - dual carriageway).
Realising I could have just lost my licence I went back and drove past slowly. It was a car licence / tax detection unit with some sort of mobile camera system pointing at passing cars.
Has anyone had a speeding ticket from one of these (UK). If so I may be banned for 6 months at the speed I was doing  Felt like about 60!

If it was a tax detection unit, they do not issue speeding tickets, but they are rare beasts.
Speed detection vans must be so marked because they are trying to prevent speeding not catch speeders.............honest !

07530d,
I saw one of those Tax Detector vans earlier this year when I was in your neck of the woods. Never seen one before or since. Perhaps you have a lot of Tax dodgers in the area
I was keeping to the limit at the time (honest!) so I don't know if they will get you for speeding. I would say not because they would have no speed detecting kit on board. The latest number plate recognition equipment is pretty hot, as I have found out to my cost as it picks up my (illegally spaced) number plate so the Boys in Blue chase, sorry follow me, and pull me over for a talking to. I've got a legal one on now, good boy that I am

My Ride: 535d auto sport saloon. titanium silver with black dakota leather. comfort seats with heating front and back. maple wood. visibility pack. media pack with tv function. m rear spoiler and m double spoke 172 19'' wheels with continental tyres
They seem to be getting more common in my area lately. I go the same route each morning and there has been a van in the same place probably once a fortnight over the last couple of months. the vans have ANPR above the rear doors ( Auto Number Plate Recognition?). i have been told that they also log the location and date/time of the 'sighting' and this information is kept for 3? years.
On my journey I pass the AWE ( Atomic Weapons Establishment ) so this might influence the frequency of my sightings of the white van.
They are probably there for some other innocent reason entirely!!

I was 'only' doing an indicated 80mph (Probably about 76/77mph) so I might be ok...
