Due to the storm I can only purchase 87 octane gas for 535XIT. Can I use it or should I walk?

Never used anything but 87 octane on three of my E46's and in my E60, always ran beautifully. I use 100 octane in my shifter kart.

On the contrary I used 87 octane for 6 months (from bjs) I messed my fuel injectors up real good, personally if it works keep using what you are but always keep it in mind.

How exactly were the fuel injectors damaged by running lower octane fuel? I could see if you were running dirty fuel that perhaps clogged the injectors but as we all know octane rating has absolutely nothing to do with the actual quality of the fuel.

Here is what a service adviser said:

Not recommended but I know there are not many options. If you do use it go easy on the engine and stop at a auto parts store and get some octane booster to put in the fuel tank

Top Tier Gasoline

The engine will detune itself to the lower octane, with minor loss of power and MPG, and it's not going to ruin the motor. I think you should be more concerned about brands that don't have enough detergent in the 87 grade. This Web site lists the brands that put enough detergent in all grades, according to a consortium of auto makers including BMW. If you're stuck with a non-conforming brand, run some Techron every few tanks to keep your injectors clean.
