Sorry for the redundant post. I know there is one right below this discussing something similar. I have a chance to pickup some OEM M5 wheels & tires for a great price ($1800). I understand that everyone says that tire setup rubs. Since I am not dropped at all would I be able to get away with running these? This is a hard deal to pass up. Could someone with direct experience please chime in? I could just change tires when I do my drop in a few months. Would I rub so much that I would hurt my car? I'm not too concerned about wearing out the tires with rubbing as long as they last 6 months or so. Would the rubbing be worse if I used a spacer in the rear as ppl suggest?

Thanks in advance!

The rubbing would be in the front not the rear...Not sure about how bad it would rub...Somebody will chime in...

255's in the front will rub....you could get away with 285's in the rear, as long as they are M5 offsets (ET28) and you don't plan on lowering your car past OEM sport pkg height or adding spacers....

a good reference:

***keep in mind that the wheels the OP is using for reference are OEM M6 167 wheels...so the rear ET is 17..(which is what most members use spacers to get to with OEM 166 wheels with M5 offsets)

Thanks for the replys guys!

Will the fronts rub so much that it is not drivable? That is my main question. Would I have no turning radius at all? Would it damage my car or would the only consequence be premature wear on the tires?

premature wear with a decreased turning radius...keep in mind that a brand new set of 166 wheels discounted from dealerships run you ~2400 for wheels alone...add another 800-1000 for tires, mount and balance and u get to 3400....now even if u get this set for 1800...another 800-1000 for some good tires that will fit properly and you'll still be coming under the price for a brand new set-up. Also, depending on the condition of the tires...you can sell those to help offset some of your cost....if you're going to spend some $ on a wheel and tire set-up...do it right

pluss if you are going to lower your car in the near future, those 255's are for sure no good....

Yes that is what makes this a tough decision I don't want to pass up. The wheels / tires only have 1000 miles on them and are supposedly like new. I have some big bills coming up and I can't spend another $1000 for tires at the moment. The $1800 I can do, but new tires would have to wait a few months. I'm not sure how hard it would be to sell the tires. I still have my 20" tires that I couldn't sell sitting in my garage... What cars use the M5 tire size? Pretty much only M5's right?
