My Ride: 545i SMG with Limited Slip Differential
Model Year: 2005
Default

Hi members!

I have a question for you: could I reuse on my car a (SMG) gearbox coming from a wrecked car ?

Question two: imagine you want to do the job by a normal mechanic and not by a BMW dealer. Would the car move after the installation? Would it move with errors on the iDrive or the SMG wouldn't work and I couldn't move the car before codification/programmation?

Thanks!

Re-use what? the transmission? I think it'll need to be re-programmed before you can use it.

I would advise you use, at the very least, a good, independent BMW shop. Toyotas and Hondas go to regular mechanics, BMWs go to BMW certified technicians. As for using a part from a wrecked car, yes, it can be done, but of course you're taking a big risk unless they give you some sort of warranty.
