Can I fit a 2008 SMG wheel to a 2005 car?

My Ride: 2005 e61 530d
Have got my hands on a paddleshift steering wheel from a 2008 M Sport

And I want to fit it to my 2005 e61 - can it be done?
I've had a retrofit done on my E39 and E38 in the past, and it was just a case of getting the appropriate slip ring and making up a small loom to the auto box.
Is that the case with this too?
