Is it possible to disable the headlight washers? I'm in CA, and the only thing that the headlight washers do for me is leave water spots and residue on the front end! I realize that they only operate when the headlights are on. However, There are times I need to use the windscreen washer at night, so that doesn't really solve the problem...

You can turn low-beams or/and fogs off before washing the windshield.

Or just drive around with the fogs and low beam only.

Do you mean just switch to the "angle eyes" only setting, instead of the full xenons?

I was at the traffic lights the other day and cleaned my windshield. This obviously activated the headlight washers, which left a whole load of white soap/foam dripping off from around the front of the car. It just so happened that a group of about eight 10-12 year old boys were crossing in front of me, who found this sight totally hilarious and burst into laughter pointing at my car. So much for driving a cool M-Sport 5er hey!

Cheers

I don't know about the E60 but on the E90 can can give the windscreen a super-short squirt (or a few of them) and the headlight washers won't come on.

Pull wiper level for a split second, release it. Then press the lever downwards (clockwise) to give it a quick single wipe.

Curious if this works on the E60 as well?

Yes, it works exactly as you say.
This is the way I do when the windscreen is very dirty and you need to have enough water spread before the wipers move...
