The Dec 2005 Car and Driver tested 11 high-performance tires with the help of Tire Rack and an E90 325i.....

...their results are as follows:

11 - Kumho Ecsta MX
10 - BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD
9 - Bridgestone Potenza RE050A
8 - Toyo Proxes T1R
7 - Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico
6 - Dunlop SP Sport Maxx
5 - Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212
4 - Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
3 - Yokahama Advan Neova AD07
2 - Continental ContiSportContact 2
1 - Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3

....I had the Goodyears on my M5 and was "iffy" about them, but will concur with C&D in that they are very good in the wet....the problem is that we don't get that many wet day's here in Dallas

Perhaps this will help those of you look for new shoes.....

The rank included cost and tread wear as well. So some of teh lower ranked tires (Bridgestone for one) performed well in wet and / or dry etc, but were down ranked for other issues alrady mentioned.

It is a very good article. Not sure if it is available on their web site as I cannot check it here at work. If not posted by the time I get home tonight, I'll try checking the web site and if not there I'll try scanning & post.

Yes, thank you for clearing that up. Cost and tread wear can hurt the tire's rank in this test.

Wow, I am going to have to consider the ContiSport's next time. Perhaps by then Continental will make them in the dimensions I need.

I posted this in the Articles section already. The tire wear actually had very little bearing on the outcome - the dry and wet performance was weighted to comprise all but the smallest portion of the ratings.

Yes, they made mention of it for most of the tires. It's a great article.
