Buying coolant somewhere other then the dealer?

I've bought coolant from a regular store 5 months ago or so. So far no issues. As a matter of fact the car has been at the dealer since then for a leaking coolant hose (I bought the coolant because it was leaking-not the other way around), and they told me that it makes no difference as long as you buy the right kind. As to the exact make and model of the coolant, I don't remember now, but any decent parts store should be able to look it up for you if you give them the year make and model of your car.
