Hi All,

I'm not new to BMWs. I have owned the following 2005 330xi, MINI cooper and current vehicle is a 2008 335i. Due to harsh winters and new addition to the family, I am thinking about swapping my 335i for a 2008 BMW 535xi. It's a BMW certified vehicle so I have full bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Is there anything I should be asking the dealer to review with me? The car is clean, 1 previous owner, no accidents.

The car has the following:
- Cold Winter Package (standard in Canada)
- Night vision
- Premium Package
- Technology Package

What concerns me of this year model is the High Pressure Fuel Pump. Other than that I haven't seen too many other issues.

My other option is to purchase an X3 (maybe x5) in the same year. I normally don't look outside of BMW just because I trust their service department, and older BMWs drive like they did on day 1.

Thanks in advance!

Make sure the HPFP has been replaced under recall. I also recently had a software update under recall as well. If you had a 335 you already know the engine. The car is much better than a three and has a lot more space. I came from a 03 325iT and love the car. You didn't mention a USB audio so you might want to get a car with that option if you are so inclined. There are lots of 08s around right now coming in off lease.

No other issues for the 535 that you would not have faced with the 335. You will love the 535 - it is a great car!

You may want to have a look at the following thread from about two weeks ago, this was also for a 535xi CPO:

Just be aware that you cannot stagger your wheels with the Xi, if that's not an issue for you than I think you will be extremely happy with your 5. Also if the HPFP has not been replaced it's as simple as scheduling an appt to have it done, no out of pocket expenses to you. Don't for forget to ask the dealer to check if the fuel injector recall was accomplished as well. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure staggered wheels were available as a factory option on the xi.

"factory" option so if staggered wheels are important than your gonna have to find a CPO with that "factory" option

I did the same exact swap as you. I went from a 335i coupe to a 535xi. I will say the CPO warranty is overrated. Those are just off lease cars that owners turned in for some reason. With that said, check the vehicle's service history and make sure its has not had too much extensive work. Also take an aftermarket bumper to bumper warranty.

Mine has not had any HFPF problems nor have I taken it in for the recall. It has 58,xxx miles.

Why? The "factory" option is just wheels and tires. I was just pointing out than you can "stagger your wheels" with an xi model, which you said can't be done. Many guys on this forum have staggered setups on their xi.

If you want to stay OEM:
36116767541 is OEM style 124 8x18 for the front w/ ET43 offset
36116767542 is OEM style 124 9x18 for the rear w/ ET55 offset

No they weren't - staggered wheels were a only a factory option on non-xi models if you got the sport package
