As a previous 545i owner, I would definitely go with that. Of course, it must have manual tranny and sport package!

[QUOTE=paran;1489701]I always check where the car has spent its life. I insist on a southern car over a northern car in this respect. CarFax is excellent for this information. Many 5 series owners run their engine oil to 15k miles, and then its sub-zero out, and then they fire up that engine. Ouch! Southern cars don't experience those pudding oil startups. Not to mention that lack of salt in the south.
This mans that They change oil more frequent in south than 15k?
In general Paran's advise is excellent but it is not easy to follow when you are looking for special car like with color combo, engine size, transmission, sport package, every available options, etc. will take you forever to find used one owner car, accident free, garaged kept, well maintained. You have to give up some of the them.
I think the problem with BMW really is that stupid 15k oil change program and "lifetime" fluid propaganda that kills gaskets and seals later on.

Oil changes are the same in the North and the South; I am sure. The difference is that the South doesn't have temperatures in the single digits on those early AM off to work engine starts. Tack on the salt, pot-holed roads, and the wear and tear on a Northern car is in "general" worse than in the South.
Patience is the key in looking for that gem of a used car. And flexibility as well. There should be some give and take on options, colors, etc when shopping in the used market. That speeds up the process and will probably get you a much better vehicle than being laser focused and in a hurry.
Since it sounds like your in a bit of a hurry and laser focused, I would absolutely take your car to a Indy shop with a BMW trained technician to look it over. Emotional buys can really burn you so be careful.
