Open the hood, remove engine cover, use a flash light and look all around the engine for traces of oil. My guess is there is oil leak somewhere and that leaked oil is falling on hot exhaust manifold/engine... leading to that burning smell.
Valve cover gasket may have contributed to that oil leak. Since that is fixed now, you will need to investigate further to see if there are any additional leaks... good luck.

Sure it's burning, not exhaust fumes from an exhaust manifold crack?

At the risk of stating the obvious- if it only started occuring after the oil change and theres no drop in oil level- did they spill oil somewhere and its now being burnt off?

I'm curious about this also. Under hard acceleration I get a burning smell for a few moments afterwards; I had the entire car inspected for any issues whatsoever and they found absolutely nothing. During normal driving and non-wot acceleration the smell is non existant

ANOTHER UPDATE:
I am the original poster. After having my mechanic change the item outlined in my above posts, I still had the smell persist for another ~2 weeks, after which the smell went away. Two months has since passed and I have not smelled it since.
Looking back on it, it very well may have been that the mechanic spilled some oil somewhere during the oil change which then caused the smell until it burned off. Or not, maybe the part i changed made the difference. I'm not sure I'll know.
