Update: I tried the brake torque method today after disabling the DSC/DTC first like I normally do after starting the car and not pressing the brake. And today there were no NERDS!
I had planned to first try it that way, then if it didn't work, I'd try disabling again while pressing the brake to see if that made a difference. So why did it work so nicely today?, I have a theory.. Today the temp outside was 75 and not much humidity. When I tried it before and the NERDS wouldn't let me it was 90 and humid out, so perhaps when it's really hot the NERDS little air intake sensor tells the ECU to hold back power at the lower RPM range. All modern car ECU's will do this to keep emissions down and not stress a hot motor. So I will wait for another hot day and repeat to see what happens.

Either way today's success was sweeet. Yes I could have let off the gas but when both tires were roaring I couldn't resist, so I figured, lite em up baby!
I don't think it's the NERDS. It's call properties of chemistry. Hot and humid equals harder to slip rubber. That's your explanation. Also, easier to slip rubber on road asphalt than on road concrete.

Bimmer, I wish it was that simple. It's hard to explain this phenomenon in words for sure. If you were there to try it you would have felt the relationship between the brake pressure and the power being output by the engine. It wasn't simply that I was pressing too hard on the brake or not enough or even too much on the gas, and the road was too hot and sticky. The NERDS were def up to no good. What you can see is that when it didn't want to brake traction the RPM would only go up to like 1500 vs when it does work it jumps right to like 2000 and the tires brake loose easily. And the ECU is controling that aspect.

Yesterday I happened to be on a quiet back road and thought I'd try again to see if I was surely crazy, and it was like 80 degrees and a little more humid but still not that hot and I had to problem getting power to brake traction at all. It jumped right to 2000 RPM and no matter how hard I pressed the brake it would spin. So summer is slowly ending and the temp may not get back to 90's and humid so unless someone else tries this where it is that hot and humid, I may have to wait till next summer to def draw a connection with the temp and humidity.

someone give me some advice on laungching with my 525xi... you may seem that it doesnt have enough power, but i think it should, since i can easily burn rubber in my 98 honda accord, 150hp........

I tried the technique on my two recent passes (posts 461 and 469). The technique did appear to disable the nannies, but it is hard for me to tell yet if my times are improved. I won't know until colder weather arrives and I have some comparables. I'll let everyone know if I think I am getting improved times. I still attempted to brake torque to the point of virtually no wheel spin as I don't think anything but, perhaps, the smallest amount of wheel spin is advantageous in getting good ET's at least with a Step.

Edit: Also, using the technique, I still did not find it easy to break traction at RPM where I would have burned my tires off in the past.
