(E60 545i) i was driving on a motorway last night. a warning lamp for faulty bulb came on. few mins later, warning lamp for brake came on and then for transmission then for windows. the monitor was flashing on off. i pulled up and turned the engine off. i tried to start it but the engine not turn over. so i have transmission lamp on, brakes lamp on, windows lamp on. sunroof not working, electric seats not working. car not starting. monitor gone blank. any ideas please.

sounds like your battery is dead. the question is why is it dead? it's either due to a bad alternator or your battery is old and past its useful life. if you have an original bmw battery, look at the negative post. it will have a set of numbers stamped on there. first two are the week and the second set is the year which the battery was made. most batteries need changing at around 5 years if age.

Your battery is dead. Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. Check engine, transmission light, engine oil lights, transmission could only go up to gear 3, all came on. Luckily, I was able to make it to my BMW repair shop and they changed out the battery for a new one ($153 total). My car's been running fine since then.

+1 Very reasonable price for a battery replacement. This topic is very popular. Search for Battery Registration posts for advise about replacing your original equipment battery with a suitable aftermarket replacement.

And, while age and driving pattern can affect battery life, so can alternator and related problems. Verify your battery is being charged under normal operation.

my 545i does this very thing about once a month. i have had the alternator replaced because they said my battery was fine, but it still breaks down.

I have found that if I wait for about an hour and get back in, it will start right up, and drive for another month or so before doing it again.

so I hope to see what your fix is.
