Broken coil spring again!!
When I got this car 6 yrs ago with only63Kkms it had both rear springs broken, this morning as I was going to replace the front brake pads noticed this at 145000kms.... Sooo disappointing where BMW quality has gone over the years, I am pretty anal about avoiding potholes and bumps in the road and yet..... https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/5series...3b94e9efc.jpeg |
This is not a normal thing for springs to fail on BMW's, so makes me think you have a special case. I see it's completely rusted ... You're in Nova Scotia - maybe your area is just extremely harsh on the spring metal. You didn't ask a question or anything, so I'd just say to replace and move on.

yes am moving on, however bmw springs ARE a problem as no other cars I know of have this problem and my E39 spend most of its life in Ottawa and got broken springs too. My guess is cheap Chinese steel. |
I've run BMWs since '87 and had one spring break in all that time. It was a Dinan spring on my E34 M5, not OE.

2015 530d just failed mot for 2nd year running due to 2 front broken springs. Last year failed due to 2 rear broken springs. 15000 miles a year mostly motorway driving. This is not good.
