Red face

Ok, just had two new tyres on my E60 a my local BMW dealer (Nick Whale in Warwick) and have noticed a yellow dot on the side wall of the tyre. Tyres are Bridgestone 17" run flats. Have looked on the net and apparently the yellow dot is the light part of the tyre and should be aligned with the valve on the rim (heavy point) to reduce the amount of weights used to balance the wheel.
I have spoke to a reputable tyre dealer who I have used in the past and they say the mark is nothing more than a quality stamp. The reason I ask is that my yellow dot is opposite the valve not next to it and quite a lot of weights have been used to balance the wheel. Does anyone know what this mark means on Bridgestone tyres and how is the heavest part of the rim deemed to be the valve

What you learnt from the net is correct.

I think you are right. My friend's car just had a run flat replaced. $$$$$

Your dealers should have known better!

Just found a picture on ebay of a set of brand new wheels and tyres removed from a BMW Mini because the owner has upgraded, the yellow dots are not next to the valve (about 120deg out) these tyres would have been factory fitted.

Generally speaking, if you get a tyre with both a red and a yellow dot on it, it should be mounted according to the red dot - ie. the uniformity mark should line up with the dimple on the wheel rim, and the yellow mark should be ignored.
