I have it but NON RFT and they are just fine.
I'm glad i stop using the RFT tires, these ones are much more comfortable.

Wear issues on RFT tyres are affected significantly by tyre pressure according to TUV in Germany. 0.2 bar under inflation causes an increase in wear of 10%, 0.4 bar by 25% and 0.6 bar by 45%. The monitoring systems which is linked to the ABS system (passive) only gives warning if a 30% deflation is incurred and for some RFTs they will suffer damage at that level of under inflation.
All of the tests carried out by official bodies indicate that RFT tyres do save lives and do prevent drivers having to change tyres by the side of the freeway. However they fail to aknowledge that drive comfort is compromised and that tyres wear more quickly than conventional tyres.
BMW currently on the 3 & 5 series use a passive system which uses conventional wheels so non-RFT tyres can be used.

If by passive system you're referring to the ABS TPM system then you're correct up to a point. BMW started installing the valve style pressure monitors on all 2007 E60's. At least that's the case in the US.

I'm not all that impressed with my stock runflats and I'll likely switch within the next six months. Wear and noise are not issues for me. But handling in dry roads and reasonable handling in wet roads are. The RE050ARFT's are horrible in the wet roads. Even my prior 540i/6 with SP-02's did much better in the rain at any speed.
This article sounds like profit driven wisdom. You can't argue there are safety benefits to RFTs. But some people, myself included, are willing to forogo them solely in the interest of better performance! This completely underscores the thrust of the article which is that performance will suffer if you don't use run flat replacements. I think this article might better apply to a middle-of-the-road car and driver. I agree that if a honda civic comes with Bridgestone run flats, you may loose performance replacing them with Falken non-fun flat tires. I am not going to use my RFT Bridgestones at all on my leased 550i. I'm using Michelin PS2s from the start. Do you really think that's going to jeopardize the performance of my car? Of course not. It's going to enhance it if anything.

BTW, for me personally I don't like RFT technology for 1 reason and its not cost. I don't like the rougher ride. I already have a sport package and low profile tires...the run flats add insult to injury. The poor rain perfromance raises another question.....
