I had the Continentals on my '04 530i and now have the Bridgestones on my '07 530i. I have noticed a considerable improvement with the Bridgestones. The Continentals started making harsh noise after 10K miles and continued to do so up til the end of my lease. The Bridgestones are much smoother and quieter - but I only have about 3K miles on them so far. Good Luck!
I appreciate the replies thus far; is there anybody out there who has 30,000+ miles on the Bridgestone Pontenza RFTs and has experiened no problems? Or, is 20k miles it? Are you sticking with RFT or thinking of changing to regular rubber. Is voiding BMW warranty a concern or not? I haven't seen any firm/official stances on this topic in other threads...

Does BMW and the tire industry have SP owners by the bxlls regarding RFTs? Hell, if I ordered my car this month I would take delivery in Jan 07. Delivery point is 150 miles from my house. Given the temps will likely be between 05 - 20 degrees farenheit (say no snow) in Jan, can I even drive the car w/RFT at those low temps? From what I have read RFTs can't be used in cold temps...?

Appreciate additional thoughts to the questions/comments I have laid out in this thread. Again, thanks to earlier contributors.

I read the same article. The test was on an E90 which was designed to ONLY run on run-flats.

I had an E60 and changed the Bridgestone REO50 run flats to Pirelli's. What a difference. It's what the car should have been from the beginning. I'm not a fan of run-flats and the extra refinement, quietness and smoothness of the Pirelli's out-weighed the hassle of having to change a wheel if a puncture did come my way. The E60 was desiged to run with both types of tyres so I don't think the outcome of the E90 test could be strictly applied to the E60.

I have the Bridgestones on my 07 550 and have been very happy with them compared with the Dunlops thar were on my 04 545.

I too would like to hear what other members have to report after 10, 20 or more miles of use, I only have 6000 miles on these tires, but so far so good. No problems in wet weather and I think they handle very well.

Any high proformance non RF tire will only return 20,000 miles so whats the big deal? My only concern is how the tires will wear and will they get noisy like the Dunlops did which did not wear well at all.

Bottom Line: Are the Bridgestone Potenza 18" RFTs a non-issue?

I really appreciate your time and assistance. This issue really seems to be swaying my judgement on whether to move-up or hang on to my current 5-series.
Wait.. You're changing your car because of fear of having problems with runflats? Sorry for the off topic, it just seems odd to me.

I am very happy with mine so far - quiet, and I like the handling. No complaints at all. I have just over 5000 miles on them.

Your exactly right - that's the type of replies I am looking for; check out my 1st post at top...Are RFTs a non-issue in decision making w/regard to E60 530i SP; if the following are accurate:

1. performance 'rubber' tires are going to run out at similiar mile range (20-25K miles)
2. E60 can use Non-RFTs w/no major design limitations; and
3. the use of non-RFTs does not void 'officially' my BMW warranty

then my decision is made a whole lot easier. I think I have seen the answer to #1; how about 2 and 3?

Feedback please.

There are no warranty problems with switching to non RFT tyres, dealers will happily do the chanre for you. Depending on driving style non RFT's will give anywhere between 15,000 ans 20,000 miles, Michelins normally have a lower wear rate than Conti's or Goodyears. Bridgestone 050 non RFT's recently came out top in German ADAC tests.

Where are you based? With winter temps that low, are winter tyres not supplied as standard? if not the RFT's will give you the same problems as non RFT's summer tyres. Low temps do not suit summer rubber.
TPM functionality is not an issue, with any tyre replacement you will have the same issue in relation to refitting of monitors, as long as correctly fitted they will measure the pressures of RFT's and non RFT's exactly the same.
Don't worry about the car coming with RFT's, if you hate them you can change them the next day. If you like them you can keep them.
It should not be an issue in your car choice.

Anyone have experience with Michelin Run Flats? I'm needing new tires in about 6 months, looking for advice. Live in Florida, no snow. Thx.

I have the 255/50/17 Bridgestone Runflats on my wifes 525.
I have had to replace both of the back tyres due to punctures but the second tyre was replaced with approx 44000km. It looked like it was due for replacement soon but the nail just forced my hand. The car is currently on 55000km and the front tyres have about 2000 to 3000 km life left before they need replacing.

Overall I have been happy with the tyres in both the wet and dry. My only concern is that I have never had a puncture before using runflats and now I have had 4 punctures in 2 different cars (the 525 and my 645)....It seems as if the Runflats attract nails :'(

Here is South Africa we have a definate problem with getting stock of the runflats and you have to be lucky that you don't have a puncture when there is no stock in the country.
