My 2006 525i has only 10,000 miles on it. For the last 3 weeks when I put the car in reverse and slowly back out of a parking spot the brakes squeal. When I put the car in Drive and need to brake in traffic or a stop light there is no squeal. The squeal only happens when going in reverse. Do you all know what the cause of this could be? Thanks.

Formula1:
I have an older model, it does the same thing. It does not happen all of the time. It never bugged me enough to bother with it. Trust me, somebody on this forum will have an answer for you, they always do.

I had the exact problem with a Mercedes. It was much worse in damp weather and started when I changed from the original brake pads to a harder aftermarket brand. It eliminated dust, but screeched terribly in reverse. Went back to OEM rear pads and no problem. You're under warranty, so let BMW inspect your pads/rotors and see what's up. If you have changed pads from the original, you know what to do.

Had mine fixed couple weeks ago (in reverse only too), seems like a common problem...brake sensor or something. Do a search, lots of topics on it. =)

could be the bad design of the brake sensors... there's a service bulletin out for that.

its the pads
I change to EBC green stuff and no squeal so after warranty you should change to aftermarket pads
